Overview
In some applications it is necessary to activate a relay in addition to the alarm relay, that will follow the bell time. This application might turn on high intensity outdoor lights when selected perimeter points go into alarm while the alarm bell activates. These lights would then remain lit only for the duration of the bell time.
Issue
A relay is required that will activate and follow the bell time for area wide burglar alarms in addition to the relay selected for Alarm Bell in Area Wide relays.
Solution
Set points required to follow bell time to use a BFSK relay by entering a number from 1-8 in Point Assignments under BFSK/Relay. When these points go into alarm, the selected BFSK relay will activate and latch. To make these relays follow the bell time, connect as described below.
Select a relay to act as the Bell output, and from this terminal, connections will be made to the BFSK form C outputs to limit it's activation time to that of the bell time. For example, if using relay A for the Bell Output, make the following connections.
1) Connect a wire from terminal 6 (Relay A Alarm Bell Output) to the common terminal of the BFSK relay which will be used to follow the Bell time.
2) From the Normally Open side of the BFSK relay, connect a wire to the +12vdc leg of an auxiliary relay such as a D130. Tie the -12vdc leg of the D130 to Aux neg (terminal 9).
4) Tie the Aux relay Common leg to the positive side of the Aux power supply.
5) Tie the Aux relay Normally Closed side to the positive (+) side of the device to be activated by the BFSK relay.
6) Tie the common (-)side of the device to common on the Aux Power Supply.
When the BFSK relay activates, its normally open contacts will close and place 12Vdc at the coil of the external relay causing it to activate. It will remain activated until the Bell time expires or the alarm is acknowledged and removed from alarm memory. At this time the external device will turn off.
Note: BFSK relays remain activated until the alarm is acknowledged at the command center and removed from memory by entering passcode and escape. Therefore, devices activating with BFSK relays and following the bell time, will reactivate with secondary trips of the alarm. This can be prevented or allowed with the setting of A# Single Ring in Area Wide Parameters. Setting to YES will allow only one activation of the alarm bell as well as the device that follows the alarm bell. A setting of NO will allow multiple activations of the alarm bell as well as devices following the alarm bell.
