How to use View Point Status for troubleshooting faulted or missing points?

View Point Status is an important part of troubleshooting which is used to determine the current state of input points. For example, when the panel annunciates a point trouble, view point status will display if the point is missing or faulted in an open or short state.

    B9512G/B8512G and B-Panels:

    1. Press [Menu] + [2] + [2].
    2. Press ENT. The keypad displays AREA X ## (where X ## = the area number and the number of points to view).
    3. Press Next to advance point by point. The point number, point text and point state displays.
    4. Press ESC to return to the area’s idle text.

    D7212/D7412/D9412/G-GV4:

    1. Ensure the command center is at idle text.
    2. Press the ESC/MENU key to enter the command menu. Press NEXT until the VIEW PT STATUS function displays.
    3. Press ENT. The keypad displays AREA X ## (where X ## = the area number and the number of points to view).
    4. Press ENT. The keypad displays PT ## XXXXX (where XXXXX = the type of point). Press ENT again to see the point state.
    5. Continue to press ENT to see the type and condition of each point.
    6. Press ESC to return to the area’s idle text.

    Some possible troubleshooting solutions:

    1. The Trouble condition may be due to incorrect programming. For example, a Normally Closed door, where opening the door generates a trouble condition. Consider selecting a point response for Trouble on Short to annunciate shorted wiring. Or one which doesn’t generate any trouble condition at all.
    2. PT###-SHORT. This usually indicates a lower-than-normal voltage across the end-of-line resistor. This may be due to incorrect wiring of the end-of-line resistor (wired in parallel vs series). The point will show ‘short’ whenever the protection device is normal. It may also indicate a misconfigured or faulty expansion device.
      • D8128D with an incorrect dipswitch setting (refer to the D8128D IOG).
      • Two D9127 popits sharing the same dip-switch address while both are in a normal state.
    3. PT###-OPEN. This usually indicates a higher-than-normal voltage across the end-of-line resistor. This may be due to incorrect wiring of the end-of-line resistor (wired in series vs parallel). The point will show ‘open’ whenever the protection device is normal. It may also indicate a broken wire, damaged contact or motion detector, or a misconfigured/faulty expansion device.
    4. PT###-MISNG. This indicates the panel cannot see the point. This may be due to a programming error (such as incorrect point source selection), wiring problem or misconfigured/faulty expansion device.
