Question   Can I telnet into an IP-223? Can I configure the IP-223 in telnet? Why would I want to use telnet?   Answer   Can I telnet into an IP-223? Yes, The IP-223 can be telnetted into. Can I configure the IP-223 in telnet? No, The IP-223 cannot be configured from the telnet session.  Why would I want to use telnet? Telnet in the IP-223 is primarily for engineering use, however this can also be a useful trouble shooting tool while in the field.   An example how this could be used is as follows; IP-223 is connected to a radio and you're not getting any receive audio back to your console. Use telnet to see if you have network connectivity and you can also see if the IP-223 is seeing any RX audio coming from the radio.  The user name for this mode is "admin" and the password is "telnet".  This is the default telnet mode and you will be able to view any RX or TX operations the IP-223 is currently processing. Telnet sessions in the IP-223 can also show serial data coming from specific radios in hexadecimal.  To view this mode for radios attached to serial 1 log into the IP-223 with username "serial1"  and password "on".  To view serial port 2 information the username is "serial2" and password "on". Telnet sessions in the IP-223 can also show incoming iDEN radio ANI and other features on attached Falcon Series iDEN phones. The user name for this mode is "lego" and the password is "mania" If you need more help with this contact Telex Technical Support at 1-800-898-6723.           © Copyright Bosch Security Systems All rights reserved. Question   How do I configure the IP-223 to operate in Console mode?   Answer   Programming the IP-223 to operate in Console mode: For either 2 or 4 wire set J3, J9, J11, J16 and J21 (Line 1) or J19, J20, J25, J28 and J29 (Line 2) to "B" position. For 2-Wire; set J33 and J34 (Line 1) or J5 and J6 (Line 2) to "A" position, set J14 (Line 1) or J24 (Line 2) to "B" position. For 4-Wire set J33 and J34 (Line 1) or J5 and J6 (Line 2) to "B" position, set J14 (Line 1) or J24 (Line 2) to "A" position. Close unit   Now connect your 2 or 4-Wire control line to the correct IP-223 DB-25 I/O port. For 2-Wire connect the (TX/RX) wires to Pins 13 and 25 For 4-Wire connect the TX (Out to console) wires to Pins 13 and 25, connect the RX (In from console) wires to Pins 12 and 24. Once your jumpers and wire connections are set you will need to place the IP-223 line into Console mode. To do this, follow the steps below: Log into the web page of the IP-223. Click on the Multicast address setup picture at the top of the page. Use the Line Type drop down for line 1 or line 2 and set it to Console mode. Now Click on the Submit button at the bottom of the page. Click on the Per-Line setup picture at the top of the page. Go to individual Lines being configured for Console mode, scroll down to "Options" section. Check "Parallel Tone Console" checkbox. Now Click on the Submit button at the bottom of the page. Now click on the Save To EEPROM and click on Save Parameters. Now that line of the IP-223 is set to Console mode will decode PTT tones. The next steps you need to take is to set levels. To set levels do the following: Using a transmission test set or similar device, measure the audio on the front panel RX test point of the IP-223 to ground. Key up the attached tone console, with no voice (only 2175 tone present) Using a small screw driver, adjust the RX pot on the front of the IP-223 for the line under test.  Set the Low Level guard tone to the level you desire, typical is -20dbm into a loaded circuit (looking for 0 gain) Key up the tone console, measure the voice audio on the RX pins of the IP-223, typical is 0dbm peaks into a loaded circuit. You should see "CTX F1" displayed on the front of the IP-223 when you PTT from the tone console, TX packets are now being sent to the network.           © Copyright Bosch Security Systems All rights reserved. Question   How can I mute my transmit audio coming back as receive on another line?   Answer   In some radio systems, when several RF channels are the same to each other in frequency, transmitting on one channel can cause others to break squelch and make noise. Although this is in reality likely an RF problem that is best dealt with by addressing the root causes—antenna proximity, orientation, and TX power output levels, etc., Telex C-Soft can help mask these symptoms by providing audio RX blocks for selected adjacent channel lines. RX blocks programmed into C-Soft will automatically mute the lines selected in the list during console transmit. (Other Telex "hard" consoles also have this feature.) For example, if Line 1, a VHF channel is randomly causing three other nearby VHF channels, Line 2, Line 3 and Line 4 to unsquelch during transmit, RX block should be programmed for those channels as shown in Figure 1. This screen is found in Edit/Set up per line parameters/Frequency. Note: per-line mute buttons must be present in the design for RX Block to work. Figure 1 RX Block delay time RX Block delay, found in Edit/Global parameters/Audio, sets the amount of time in milliseconds, that the muting time is continued after console ptt stops.  This can be useful for masking repeater squelch tails and network latency of parallel line RX traffic, see Figure 2.   Figure 2                   © Copyright Bosch Security Systems All rights reserved. Question   My Network Recorder program will not open and gives an message saying " # defined active channels. Key allows for # channels." - why? Answer   To get back into the Network Recorder you will have to delete a file and then reprogram the NR with the multicast addresses. This will reset the Network Recorder Multicast Table to factory defaults and will also enable you to run the program with a lower line Network Recorder key. After completing these steps you will need to reprogram the Multicast addresses of your IP-223’s that you want it to record: To reset the Multicast addresses in the Network Recorder, delete the file recordIP.telex  located at C:\Program Files\Telex Communications\Telex Network Recorder\DataFiles\ Reboot the Network Recorder and now you should be able to program the NR with the multicast addresses and then the NR program will run.             © Copyright Bosch Security Systems All rights reserved.
