In case of unexpected behavior of the Bosch Forensic Search in Genetec Security Center this page can help during the investigation and in finding the root cause of the problems
Possible causes and solution(s)
Search is not delivering any results or showing an error in the filter section.
First of all, it is important to mention that it is not necessarily an error, when no search results are presented after a successful search. There are multiple reasons like:
The configured rules are too specific → try to run the search with more generic rules
The configured timespan may not have any objects → check on a Genetec 'Monitoring' task if there are objects visualized and run the search again with a generic rule set
If there are still no results try following the steps below
If you encounter an error message during the search execution, also follow the steps below.
There are several possible root causes for such issues
Metadata is not recorded or not recorded in the correct format
Security measures prevent the forensic search from running correctly
The communication ports that are used by the Bosch tools are already in use by other processes
In general - the Genetec logging mechanism provides a good way of retrieving additional, more specific information in certain scenarios.
The log-viewer is available through: http://localhost/Genetec/DebugConsole on SC 5.10 or http://localhost/console on SC 5.11
Pick the 'Bosch' logger to subscribe to the Bosch specific messages
The error messages there point to problems encountered in the Bosch components and provide some guidance to find the root cause of certain problems, such as:
message pointing to a wrong FSS executable → most probably the default port of the internal Bosch communication is not available and needs to be changed. Please refer to the specific 'How to' article.
message pointing to role activation problems → check if the plugin role is properly enabled in the Config Tool
message pointing to missing metadata → most probable something went wrong with the camera's metadata recording
In case there's no solution to the issue, further investigation with the support team is needed and trace logs are very much necessary to understand what's going on on the installation.
The trace logging is similarly activated in Genetec as the normal loggers, except that a file and some file parameters need to be specified as depicted below:

This article describes how to change the communication ports that are used by the Bosch Forensic Search inside a Genetec installation.
The default communication port between the Bosch server components is 5051. It may happen that this port is already in use by another process and hence the setting needs to be changed. Such a situation would be exposed to the user as a 'Server error' when trying to execute a search and a log entry would be created, indicating the the FSS validation is not possible.
The following steps are needed to change the communication port:
Make sure that you change the settings only on a system where the Bosch server components are installed.
Create a Windows environment variable 'FSS_BIND_PORT' with the newly chosen value.
3 When the variable is applied, restart the Bosch Forensic Search service

What kind of licenses do I need to operate a Bosch Forensic Search inside Genetec Security Center?
The plug-in is provided free of charge from Bosch and it will also be operational with a regular Genetec base-license in SC 5.12 and newer.
However - current installations with Security Center 5.10 or 5.11 need to add a free of charge license that can be obtained from Genetec. The necessary license to be ordered from Genetec is: GSC-1SDK-BOSCH-PLUGINSUITE with 5 connections.

What kind of Bosch extensions are supported with the Forensic Search?
To be able to run a forensic search on stored metadata, this data needs to be pulled in a special manner from Bosch cameras, which needs to be implemented in the Genetec driver.
In Security Center 5.10, only the ‘Legacy (CPP 7.3 and older)’ Bosch extension is supported.
In Security Center 5.11 the ‘Legacy’ and the ‘Other (CPP 13 and newer)' driver extension support the forensic search functionality. However the functionality was introduced with Driver Pack 11.3 with a additional Archiver setting.
With Driver Pack 11.5 this setting is obsolete.
To enable the special setting follow the next steps:
Open the 'Config Tool'
Select the 'Archiver' that manages the relevant cameras.
Select the 'Resources' tab on the Archiver settings and click: 'Advanced Settings ...'
4 On the 'Advanced settings' click 'Additional settings...'
5 On the 'Additional settings...' add the following key-value pair: BoschHybridDriverVcaMetadata=true

This article describes the necessary steps that are needed to install the Bosch Forensic Search Plug-in properly on a Genetec Security Center system.
The Bosch Plugin Suite installer provides the possibility to install server and client components on Genetec systems. Please ensure to only install needed components, which means that the client components need to be installed on computers where Security Desk is used. The server and the service components need to be installed on a system that hosts an Archiver instance.
Make sure to install the plugin on supported systems
On client only machines in a distributed system, install the plugin's client components only (this is the default of the installer)
3 One of the server machines (where an Archiver is installed) install the plugin's server component and the service component that is coming with the installer.
One plugin instance is currently enough for a proper operation.
Make sure to follow the 'post installation' steps as described in the User Guide that comes with the plugin installer.
