Question Why do I keep getting a Key Read error 71 on C-Soft or Network Recorder?   Answer The PC has an issue with the drivers for the license dongle, reloading of drivers is required. Please check to make sure the donlge USB or Paralell key is plugged into the pc. Reboot the PC. Wait 2 minutes after logging in to the PC and start the software program. If you still get key read errors please follow the rest of the steps to properly install the driver. You need to make sure that the dongle is unplugged. Uninstall all drivers in add/remove programs referred to as Sentinel or Safenet or SPNcombo. Reboot computer. Install the latest driver from the safenet website. http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.aspU Reboot computer again. Now plug the dongle key back in. Now download the key reader application and run it. This program should read the key and tell you how many lines it is programmed for. Question What are some reasons I get intermittent PTTs in Tone Mode with Analog Consoles and IP-223‘s?   Answer When using a legacy console with RoIP transport, under certain conditions PTT activation at the radio end (Tone Mode IP-223) may not be consistent. There are two main reasons this can occur: Signal level into the tone remote panel or tone controlled radio is too high or too low. Both insufficient signal level, or excessive signal level can cause the decoder to become unreliable. Increasing or decreasing the level into the decoding device may reveal the optimum set point. Ideally, the set point should be centered in the decoding signal “window”. This point may vary from one decoder device to another. Doubling of the LLGT. If the Console Mode IP-223 does not have the PTT Notch filter on, a 2175 Hz sine wave is sent out with the console audio. At the radio end the Tone mode IP-223, a second LLGT tone is added. The constant variation in phase of these two beating signals will cause problems with intermittent decoding. Only the Tone mode IP-223 should be generating the LLGT. Question What are some of the reasons for no serial control of radios attached to IP-223?    Answer Serial control of some Kenwood, EF Johnson, Sepura and iDEN radio models require data initialization upon boot up of the IP-223 before the data connection becomes active. This is indicated by a message in the display of the IP-223, such as “KENWOOD” for Kenwood radios and “EFJOHNSON” for EF Johnson radios (The radio must be powered up before the IP-223 is power cycled.) If you do not get this confirmation upon boot up, you will need to do some troubleshooting. This indication will persist in the IP-223 display until the first time the radio is keyed up. If you are not getting any indication of serial data initialization, check to see that the serial cabling is correct and that the serial programming jumper is inthe correct position for the radio installed. If you are using Line 2 of the IP-223, be aware that a Serial Y cable is required to adapt the standard Telex radio to IP-223 interface cable for use with Line 2. Question What is the IP-224's DC current draw?   Answer During normal operation, each IP-224 needs about 570 mA. Question How do I set up an IP-223 for BCD Channel Control?   Answer Many radios are capable of being channel steered via external BCD (Binary Coded Decimal) control. The IP-223 is capable of generating BCD channel control via the bit lines at the DB-25 connectors. The BCD outputs are controlled by the F-Tones generated from the console, and are specified in the F-Tone tables, in the Per Line Settings of the IP-223. BCD bit lines are assigned to the DB-25 pin numbers as follows: 8 -   Dig 0 21-  Dig 1 9 -   Dig 2 22 – Dig 3 10 – Dig 4 23 – Dig 5 20 – Dig 6 The range for the digital output number is 0 to 128, as shown in Table 16, on page 161 of the IP-223 manual. Using pin 20 for COR limits the range to 0 to 63. Assignment of the BCD output values are accomplished in the Per Line Settings page of the IP-223, shown in Figure 1 below. Enter the desired numeric values for each F-Tone in the Digital Output column, (some applications may require the entry of the compliment of the channel number.)  Set IP-223 jumper J8(Line 1) and J30(Line 2) for the appropriate pull up voltage (+5, +12, or floating.) Question How do you convert Voting Systems from Analog to IP Based with Telex Equipment?   Answer Conversion of an analog voting system to IP transport is a common mode of system upgrade being successfully done in many locations.  Careful consideration must be given to several aspects of the change in the system configuration in order to achieve good results. The first consideration is planning the network topology to have minimal bandwidth constrictions and packet delays. Ideally, packets moving across the network carrying audio will need to have the most logically direct path possible from port to port…ideally an isolated flat network. The network should be designed with enough bandwidth so that all lines of the IP-223s should be able to function simultaneously without restrictions. It is necessary to configure network timing parameters so that all receiver audio traffic arrives at the voter with nearly the same propagation time, regardless of which receiver site it originates from…something on the order of plus or minus 10 ms. Some latency is acceptable, as long as it is virtually uniform, from all sites. Obviously the audio level characteristics from each receiver site would also need to be matched as closely as possible. Analog audio levels need to be very consistent from site to site. Example: GE Analog Voter system conversion to IP based audio: A typical GE “valley voted” system uses a 1950 Hz status tone to determine when receive traffic is present, and that the receiver and transmission line are functional. The status tone is continuous when no signal is present. The voter cards also use the status tone for line level compensation to provide consistent audio levels regardless of which line is in use. Status Tone Transmission A continuous status tone cannot be used with the IP-223, as packets from receiver to receiver will become largely out of sync over time. Also the CODECs are designed for voice audio rather than a continuous tone and thus a tone will have distortion. One possible workaround is to generate the 1950 Hz locally, just ahead of the voter, and gate it with received audio from the IP-223. A circuit would have to be installed at the voter that generates the status tone the voter is looking for, and passes voice audio during receive activity. Such devices are available from third party vendors. The second change needed to the voter system would be to re-configure it for “vote and hold”, rather than continuous voting during mobile PTTs. The first receiver voted locks in until the mobile PTT drops. This avoids problems that would occur with continuous voting, which can create echoes from audio streams not being in sync.           © Copyright Bosch Security Systems All rights reserved. Question How do I program the IP-223 to operate in TONE mode?   Answer Programming the IP-223 to operate in TONE mode. First set jumpers for either 2 or 4 wire operation, open unit. For either 2 or 4 wire set J3, J9, J11, J16 and J21 (Line 1) or J19, J20, J25, J28 and J29 (Line 2) to "B" position. For 2-Wire set J33 and J34 (Line 1) or J5 and J6 (Line 2) to "A" position, set J14 (Line 1) or J24 (Line 2) to "B" position. For 4-Wire set J33 and J34 (Line 1) or J5 and J6 (Line 2) to "B" position, set J14 (Line 1) or J24 (Line 2) to "A" position. Close unit   Now connect your 2 or 4-Wire control line to the correct IP-223 DB-25 I/O port. For 2-Wire connect the (TX/RX) wires to Pins 13 and 25 For 4-Wire connect the TX (Out to radio) wires to Pins 13 and 25, connect the RX (In from radio) wires to Pins 12 and 24. Once your jumpers and wire connections are set you will need to place the IP-223 line into Tone mode. To do this, follow the steps below.      Log into the web page of the IP-223.      Click on the Multicast address setup picture at the top of the page.      Use the Line Type drop down for line 1 or line 2 and set it to TONE mode.      Now Click on the Submit button at the bottom of the page.      Now click on the Save To EEPROM and click on Save Parameters.      Now that line of the IP-223 is set to TONE mode will emit PTT tones. The next steps you need to take is to set levels. You will need a alignment handset to help you. If you do not have one then you may use C-Soft to key up the IP-223. Once you have the IP-223 keying up then you can now set the levels. To set levels do the following:      Using a transmission test set or similar device, measure the audio on the TX pins of the IP-223      Using a small screw driver, adjust the TX pot on the front of the IP-223 for the line under test.      Set the Low Level guard tone to the level you desire, typical is -20dbm into a loaded circuit.      Key up the IP-223 with C-Soft or the handset, measure the voice audio on the TX pins of the IP-223, typical is 0dbm peaks into a loaded circuit.     You should see the radio key up when you PTT from C-Soft or the handset.           © Copyright Bosch Security Systems All rights reserved. Question How many devices (radios, phones or tone lines) can you control with one IP-223? Question How do you setup a DSP-223 with repeater enable and disable tones?   Answer First make sure no relay is set for F01. If there is a relay set, you can delete it. Click in the relay window and press the delete key. Also set the Relay Group to 2. Second set your enable ftone and disable ftone. Set F05 to relay 1 and group 1 and F06 to relay 2 and group 1. See example below. Once this is saved and put into the DSP-223 you will see the relays 1 or 2 close when you use F05 or F06. Question Why do my C-Soft volume sliders provide no level changes to receive audio?   Answer In early versions of C-Soft Designer, audio volume sliders (main, per-line and nena) had a default of 0db gain, basically the slider is off.  We suggest increasing the maximum gain to 12 db thus allowing for amplification of lower RX levels.    Length of Sliders - Slider length affects the resolution of the control, so the shorter the slider, the more abruipt changes will be in volume level.  The most common method of configuring a slider so that it has sufficient length/resolution is to make it a vertical slider, usually alongside the line it controls.             © Copyright Bosch Security Systems All rights reserved. Question I have C-Soft v6.100 and a MOTOTRBO radio attached to the IP-223 with MTRBi interface and ID's are not showing in the Global Call History window, why?   Answer You will need to add a Select button in the design for that line. Question I can't see the changes that I made to my C-Soft design in C-soft Runtime.  What am I doing wrong?   Answer You most likely are not doing anything wrong. The problem is the User Account Controls (UAC) feature of Windows 7. This feature was built to help protect users from themselves and other malicious programs. So if you cant see any of your changes that you made in C-Soft designer in C-Soft runtime, then the UAC is likely causing this issue.  To turn off the UAC on the pc you need to have administrator access to the pc.   Once you have admin rights then follow the below steps. 1. Go to your Start bar and click in the Seach programs and files box. 2. Type in UAC. 3. Click on Change User Account Control Settings. 4. Now move the slider down to never notify. 5. Click on OK. 6. Question Why isn't my Kenwood TK-x90 changing channels after following the Telex Instructions?   Answer Changes by Kenwood have caused an issue with firmware for the TK-x90 radio. We know that firmware check sum 7C4A will not work with our IP-223 or IP-224. You will need to downgrade your radio to Firmware Check sum 3902. Question How can I troubleshoot IP Console and Gateway Audio Transport across a network?   Answer On initial set up of a console system, often the most frequent problem is the failure of Consoles and IP-223s to communicate across the network.  Common causes of this are: Typos in addressing, such as multicast addresses and port numbers not matching on end to end devices. Firewall turned "ON" in console computers Multicast being blocked across the network due to router settings, etc Use of the Telex “VU Meter” program (download at http://www.telex.com/us/dispatch/file?i=97544&lg=eng) is an excellent and quick way to determine if data is present on the correct port numbers. Open VU Meter with the appropriate multicast address and port number entered in the blanks. Turn the program on. Send a test call on the TX or RX port numbers and see if VU Meter indicates digital audio activity. You may open multiple instances of VU Meter to simultaneously monitor TX and RX port numbers.  Verification that audio data is being sent out on the correct address, but not arriving at the far end of the network may indicate a problem with network configurations, that is, blocking of multicast traffic.
