How to configure Bosch control panels to synchronize time with a Bosch receiver.

    Preliminary:

    1.   Bosch control panels have the ability to synchronize time while sending reports when communicating with the receiver over an Ethernet or Cellular connection. Accurate time sync requires correct configuration of the control panel as well as the receiver.

    • The reporting panel must follow the same Daylight Savings Time (DST) configuration as the receiver. If the receiver is configured to observe DST then all reporting panels must also observe DST and vice versa.
    • The correct local UTC time zone must be entered into the receiver as well as panel types with a configuration selection for local UTC time zone. Note that only B8512G, B9512G, B-panels and GV4 ver2+ panel types provide a selection for UTC time zone.
    • Incorrect configuration settings for local UTC time zone or DST may cause undesirable panel operation after synchronizing time including errors in control panel time by one or more hours.

    2.   Time synchronization is achieved either by the receiver ‘pushing’ time to the panel, or by the panel ‘pulling’ time from the receiver.

    • Push’ method:  Older panel types (D7212, D7412, D9412, G/GV2/GV3/GV4 version 1.x) synchronize time by the receiver ‘pushing’ the receiver’s current time to the panel during reporting. This basic form of time sync makes no adjustments for the location of the panel or receiver. The receiver simply sends its current time to the control panel. Therefore a panel in New York reporting to a receiver in California would be pushed the current time in California. The result would be incorrect time in the panel located in New York.
    • Pull’ method:  Newer panel types (B8512G, B9512G, B-panels and GV4 ver2+) are configured to ‘pull’ correct time from the receiver. During time sync the panel performs a calculation for correct local time using the panel’s programmed UTC time along with the receiver’s programmed local UTC time. Since both the panel and receiver use their respective local UTC time zones, accurate time can be synchronized even while the panel and receiver are in different time zones.
    • Never use the ‘Push’ method with B8512G, B9512G, B-panels and GV4 ver2+. Time Sync in the network account must always be set as '0' for these types. Selecting Time Sync=1 configures the receiver to push time to the panel which will conflict with the panel’s time keeping and may result in unintended operation (see figure 1 below).

How to configure the receiver for UTC Time Zone, Daylight Savings Time (DST) and proper country.

    1.    Access the CPU Configuration Management page.

    • From the drop down menus, click on TeleCom, and hover over CPU Configuration Management. Select Read/Manage CPU Configuration from Receiver (see figure 2 below).

    2.    Set item 2.2.3 for the proper country code (see figure 3 below).

            a.   1 = USA

            b.   2 = Europe.

    3.    Set item 2.2.32 for the receiver’s correct local time zone (see figure 3 below).  Note that entries are made as positive or negative values. E.g. Eastern Time (US & Canada) is [ - 5 ] and not simply [ 5 ].

    4.    Set item 2.2.39 for the starting week of Daylight Savings Time (DST) (see figure 3 below).

    • Enter 4 digits as MMWW for the month (MM) and week (WW) when DST starts each year. For example an entry of 0302 indicates DST starts the second week of March on Sunday at 2:00am. At this time the clock will be adjusted to 3:00am.

    5.    Set item 2.2.40 for the ending week of Daylight Savings Time (DST) (see figure 3 below).

    • Enter 4 digits as MMWW for the month (MM) and week (WW) when DST ends each year. For example an entry of 1101 indicates DST ends the first week of November. At this time the clock will be adjusted according to the selection for Country.
      • With item 2.2.3 set as 1 for US, at 2:00am the clock will be adjusted to 1:00am.
      • With item 2.2.3 set as 2 for EU, at 3:00am the clock will be adjusted to 2:00am.

How to configure Time Sync in D7212, D7412, D9412, G/GV2/GV3/GV4 version 1.x control panels:

    1.   Time synchronization is controlled in the network account of the receiver selection. Enable or disable with a selection for Time Sync as described below (see figure 4 below).

    • Time Sync= 0 (Disabled): The receiver does not synchronize time with the control panel.
    • Time Sync= 1 (Enabled): The receiver synchronizes its time with the control panel during reporting by setting the minutes of the panel.

    2.   Configure Daylight Savings Time (DST) in the control panel to match the receiver configuration. If the receiver is configured to observe DST then all reporting panels must also observe DST and vice versa. Note that the current hour or date in the control panel are not changed using this method of time sync.

    • GV3 version 8.10+ and GV4 version 1.x control panels control DST under AUXPARM > Misc > Daylight Savings Time. Select US Calendar to enable DST or Disabled to disable DST (see figure 5).

    • D7212, D7412, D9412, G/GV2/GV3 ver8.00-8.09 panel types use schedules to adjust panel time forward or backward to observe Daylight Savings Time.
      • Access SCHEDULES > Skeds in the panel program.  Create one sked to adjust time backward on the first Sunday in November using Function Code 14. Create another sked to adjust time forward on the second Sunday in March using Function Code 13. DST time is adjusted at 02:00 (see figure 6 below).

How to configure Time Synchronization with GV4 version 2+, B8512G, B9512G and B-panels:

    1.   Enable Time sync by selecting Time Synchronization= YES in the panel program under Panel Wide Parameters > Communicator.

    • Note that Time Synchronization is available for all route groups, but can only be set to Yes for one route group at a time.(see figure 7 below).

    2.   Access Panel Wide Parameters > Miscellaneous and Daylight Savings time and Time Zone.

    3.   Select the correct DST entry for the location of the control panel. If the receiver is configured to observe DST then all reporting panels must also observe DST and vice versa.

    4.   Select the proper local UTC time zone for the location of the control panel (see figure 8).
